TBA member, Laurie Richardson will have her work exhibited for the 2016-2017 school year at the Florida International University. Works in this exhibition were juried by FIU’s Frost Art Museum. The watercolor, Phalaenopsis on Palm Tree will grace the walls of FIU President, Mark B. Rosenberg’s university home. Congratulations to Laurie for representing us through her lovely painting at FIU.

FREE EXHIBIT EVENING AND LECTURE AT DEERING ESTATE
(MIAMI, August 22, 2016) – The Deering Estate welcomes the public to experience Small Eden, a multidisciplinary exhibit featuring botanical watercolors by Tropical Botanic Artists and a specially curated Herbarium collection from Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Highlighting their onsite orchid specimens and recent initiatives, FTBG Director, Dr. Carl E. Lewis will present a brief lecture called “The Million Orchid Project: Community-based species restoration for South Florida." The exhibit is on display from August 5 - September 30, 2016 on view daily with Estate admission. The Exhibit Evening is on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and is free & open to the public. Lecture begins promptly at 7:15 pm
Small Eden is a multidisciplinary exhibit featuring watercolors by Tropical Botanic Artists, historic objects and photographs, and a collaboratively curated Herbarium collection and lecture from Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
Tamiami Trail: In the Beginning, Portraits of plants found along the Tamiami Trail is a botanical watercolor exhibit that marks the 100th anniversary of this scenic national highway through the Everglades. Unique works by Tropical Botanic Artists including; Margie Bauer, Kristi Bettendorf, Beverly Borland, Silvia Bota, Marie Chaney, Susan Cumins, Jeanie Daniel Duck, Julio Figueroa, Bobbi Garber, Pauline Goldsmith, Leo Hernandez, Elsa Nadal, Carol Onstad, Laurie Richardson, Donna Torres, and Jedda Wong.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden Herbarium -A collaboration between Dr. Brett Jestrow, FTBG Herbarium Curator, and the Deering Estate Curatorial Team, the complementing collections exhibit shows several of the represented specimens from the Deering Herbarium Collection, a historic collection supported by Charles Deering and established by botanist John Kunkel Small in the Early 1900’s. Special orchid specimens from the Buswell Collection are on view to highlight Fairchild’s recent initiative The Million Orchid Project. Exhibit is located in the James Deering Danielson Library of the Stone House.
